JOURNEY TO QUALIFICATION:

During this process, France competed in League A, Group A3. From April to July, they played teams such as England, Ireland and Sweden.

Ultimately, a 2-1 victory over Sweden secured their spot in the competition this summer.

HISTORY AT THE EUROS:

France kicked off their 2022 Euro campaign with a comfortable 5-1 victory over Italy, arguably their strongest match of the tournament.

In their second game, they went on to beat Belgium, and in their final group stage game they drew 1-1 with Iceland.

On Saturday the 23rd of July, France won their quarter final match 1-0 against the current title holders at the time, the Netherlands.

Les Bleues exited the competition in the semi final after a 2-1 defeat against Germany.

TEAM CAPTAIN:

Unexpectedly, Bonadei has chosen to not include their team captain, Wendie Renard, and vice-captain, Eugenie Le Sommer in the Euro squad.

This has sparked many questions from the public but Bonadei claims “ I want different results for this team so I have gone with a different selection.”

As a result of these changes, Griedge Mbock has been confirmed as the new captain and will be hoping to lead her side to European Victory.

Griedge Mbock is a centre back for both France and PSG and currently has 91 appearances for the national team.

She has been named D1 Young Player of the Year twice and has experienced significant club success at her time with Lyon.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Grace Geyoro

Geyoro is a technical midfielder for both PSG and France. Known for her physicality and attributes on the pitch, she is a standout team player and will play a crucial role in their European campaign.

Sandy Baltimore

Chelsea’s number 17, Sandy Baltimore, is a major asset to this french side and is currently in excellent form for club and country.

Not only is she able to play as a confident left back, but she can also play impressively down the left wing causing trouble to defenders.

WHAT WOULD SUCCESS THIS SUMMER LOOK LIKE?

Les Bleues main goal this summer would be to achieve their first major trophy at senior level having fallen short in recent competitions.

A promising young squad with a mix of experience, could this be their year?
