Five young players to watch in UEFA Women’s Euro 2025

For many young players this will be their first senior international tournament.
Whether this be Carrie Jones, who helped her team qualify for their first major international tournament, or Smilla Holmberg, who only received her first international call up in the last couple of months, each of these players are set to be big names in the next few years so are definitely ones to keep your eyes on this summer.
Aggie Beever-Jones
At 21 years old, Aggie Beever-Jones has already made herself known throughout England and Europe for her goal scoring abilities.
With just seven international caps to her name, this summer will be a summer of firsts for the young Lioness.
Her first official goal came in a 5-0 win over Belgium in the Nations League and since then she has scored a 33 minute hat trick at Wembley against Portugal, becoming just the second ever Lioness to do so in England’s home Stadium and undoubtedly securing her spot in the squad in the summer.
Smilla Holmberg
18-year-old Smilla Holmberg has made her mark in the Damallsvenskan this season, with four goals and an assist in her first three games this domestic season, she earned herself her first senior call up in May alongside club teammate Ellen Wangerheim.
Since then, the right back has made two appearances for the team, starting and keeping a clean sheet in each of them.
The defender only made her senior domestic debut in June 2024 but made her Championship League debut just four months later against St Pölten, before making her first start in the reverse fixture another two months later.
Carrie Jones
Despite making her international debut in 2019, Carrie Jones is entering Wales first ever major tournament as the second youngest player in the squad.
The 21-year-old played a vital role in the teams qualification for the tournament thanks to her goal against Ireland in the second leg of the 2-1 play off win.
Domestically, the young midfielder has played for a variety of teams, including Manchester United, where she signed her first senior contract at just 18 years old.
Since then, she’s played in the WSL for both Leicester City and Bristol City as well as in the Damallsvenskan for IFK Norrköping, who she signed for in the summer of 2024.
Veerle Buurman
19-year-old Veerle Buurman caught the eyes of English giants, Chelsea after her performance at the Under-20 World Cup in September 2024 leading to her signing mid tournament.
Spending the 24/25 season on loan to her childhood club PSV, she earns the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year award in the Eredivisie 24/25 awards.
The young Dutch defender earned her maiden call up to the senior team in November and made her debut that same month.
Her first international goal came just days later in a friendly against the US Women’s National Team and since then she has made a further four international appearances, starting each of them.
Sydney Schertenleib
The young Swiss international shot into the spotlight after making her domestic senior debut at just 15 years old and being denied eligibility to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League due to her young age.
Less than two years later, at 17 she made her international debut for Switzerland in a friendly against Poland. Just months later she scored her first goal for the National team, against Turkey.
In the summer of 2024, Schertenleib moved to Spanish giants, FC Barcelona in a transfer that famously began via Instagram DM.
After two months playing with the development team, Schertenleib made her senior debut for the club in a 4-0 win over Eibar in November of 2024. Since making her debut she has scored twice for the team, assisting a further three goals.
Each of these players bring different qualities to their teams and with their young ages, it is no doubt that they are the stars for the future.
These young talents are set to make a massive impact this summer and will most definitely be an exciting watch.
