Last month saw Chelsea lift their sixth consecutive WSL title at Stamford Bridge and their sixth Adobe Women’s FA cup trophy at a sold out Wembley stadium, but how did their treble winning season pan out?

Overview

The blues set off to a strong start in the league in September, scoring 8 goals across two matches in the league and conceding zero. Throughout October and November, they played ten matches where they continued their unbeaten run in the league and began the same journey in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Here they scored 29 goals and picked up wins against league rivals, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. Following this, the unbeaten streak continued, with the team winning all but two matches until late march where the blues picked up their first loss of the season against Manchester City in the quarter finals of the Champions league.

Bompastors reign

Sonia Bompastor began her new role on July 1st 2024, signing from Lyon where she had spent three seasons in charge of the French side. Having spent a large portion of her senior career playing at Lyon, Bompastor became the first female manager to win the Champions League as both a player and a manager in her first season as head coach of Lyon, something fans hoped she could replicate in her first season with Chelsea.

Whilst this didn’t happen, a successful summer transfer window meant that Sonia Bompastor and Chelsea were on a role from the start.

Standout stars

At just 21 years old, Aggie Beever-Jones has cemented herself a spot within the Chelsea senior team. Scoring 13 goals with 3 assists throughout the season, the young attacker earned herself regular call ups to the England Senior team this season.

For Hannah Hampton, the season was quite the opposite to the one prior, having a large portion of it on the bench. This season, she started every single match in the league where she earned herself the golden glove after keeping 13 clean sheets and conceding just 13 goals throughout the league season.

Oriane Jean Francois was one of the many signings Sonia Bompastor made over the summer, despite missing out on the beginning of the season through ACL recovery, the French midfielder was the unsung hero for Chelsea this season regardless of her lack of playing time.

After signing from Everton in January 2024, Nathalie Björn secured her spot as a staple in the starting XI for Chelsea this season. The Sweden international stepped up her game in the absence of Kadeisha Buchanan to earn players player of the season.

WSL

Chelsea ended the season unbeaten in the WSL, winning the league against Manchester United once again, with two games left to play. The team were off to a stellar start in the league, not dropping any points until December, however, it’s been argued that the team plateaued in the latter stages of the year.

League cup

Chelsea won their first piece of silverware of the season in March amidst four consecutive head to head matches with Manchester City. Here they took a trip to Derby where they beat Manchester City 2-1 thanks to a goal from Mayra Ramirez and an own goal from Yui Hasegawa.

UWCL

Chelsea collected their first loss of the season in the quarter finals of the champions league, losing 2-0 to Manchester City after winning every game prior to this. Despite this, the blues came back in the second leg, claiming a triumphant 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge. The team was drawn against reigning champions Barcelona in the semi finals for the third consecutive year. They lost 4-1 both home and away despite their best efforts to close the gap in the second leg.

Fa Cup

May saw the conclusion of the 2024/25 season at Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup final. Here they faced Manchester United, the same team who controversially knocked them out in the semi finals the year prior and the team they beat 1-0 in the final the year before that. This season they repeated the events of 2023, winning 3-0 in a dominant display against the Red Devils to complete the domestic season unbeaten and earn themselves the domestic treble.
